The X-Files: I Want to Believe poster© 20th Century Fox

The Skinny

  • Acting: B- (Anderson and Duchovny show little rust. The supporting cast is so-so.)
  • Direction: C (Carter perhaps should've left the directing to someone who can generate more scares, emotion and visual panache.)
  • Script: D (There's no excuse for coming up with such a mundane, small-scale story after 10 years.)
  • Gore/Effects: B- (Only PG-13-level gore, but it's well done.)
  • Overall: C (Flat and unimaginative yet watchable, thanks to the good will built up over the years from the TV show.)

The X-Files: I Want to Believe is directed by Chris Carter and is rated PG-13 for violent and disturbing content and thematic material. Opening date: July 25, 2008.
