Welcome to the Scabbies, what will hopefully become an annual celebration (condemnation?) of the worst that horror movies have to offer. Certainly, the true "worst of the worst" go straight to video, but since few people beyond the filmmakers' kin have seen those films, we'll stick to theatrical releases.
Worst Vampire Movie
Rise: Blood Hunter: Just like Blade -- minus all the irritating action, style, budget and competence.
Worst Werewolf Movie
Skinwalkers: If I wanted to see people shoot each other, I'd go drive on the freeway.
Worst Zombie Movie
Planet Terror: Intentional camp is one thing; intentional bludgeoning of the senses is another.
Worst Monster Movie
Primeval: You know you're in trouble when the 7-Up guy is the best thing in the movie.
Biggest Flop
The Invasion: $80 million budget, $15 million gross. Ouch.
Biggest Bore
Death Proof: There was so much pointless chatter in this movie, I began to long for conversations with my wife.
Worst American Attempt at Asian Horror
The Messengers: Only because One Missed Call hit theaters a few days into 2008.
Most Egregious Use of Digital Effects
I Am Legend: Apparently, the one mistake that every zombie movie up until now has made is casting real-life people to play the undead hordes instead of cheesy PG-13 computer-generated zombies who should be sharing screen time with Brendan Fraser.
Most Convoluted Vaguely Supernatural Thriller Whose Ending No One Cared About
(Tie) Premonition and The Number 23
Worst Way to Keep Arnold Schwarzenegger in Politics
Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem: Great, now he's gonna have to make another movie just to get the Predator franchise back in line.
