A large part of the appeal of
zombie movies to genre fans is the grandiose scale of a global apocalypse and the bleak vision of a world overrun by the undead. Smaller independent films realize this but lack the funds to recreate a worldwide crisis. I had high hopes for
I Am Legend, but while it crafted an effectively barren landscape, it blew its chance by populating it with distractingly artificial computer-generated zombie-like beings. Can someone explain to Hollywood that a big budget doesn't necessitate the rampant use of digital effects? For the love of Stan Winston!
