Because of the traditionally edgy, gory nature of
zombie fare, it hasn't enjoyed the blockbuster crossover success of vampire films and TV shows, but that doesn't mean that zombies aren't as popular as ever. The
Resident Evil franchise continues to perform solidly, and in 2009,
Zombieland became the highest-grossing zombie movie domestically in the US (unless you count
I Am Legend, which technically doesn't have zombies in it). Meanwhile, literary zombie works like
The Walking Dead and
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies were optioned into live-action adaptations.
