Robert Englund is best known for playing the iconic horror movie villain Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, but he's acted in more than 20 other horror films throughout his long and storied career. He's tackled roles as varied as a redneck in Hatchet to a college professor in Urban Legend to classic literary characters like the Phantom of the Opera and the Marquis de Sade (Night Terrors). Unlike the various actors who've played Friday the 13th's Jason Vorhees, Halloween's Michael Myers or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Leatherface, Englund has remained the villainous face through the entire run of his franchise -- in part because he can't hide behind a mask and in part because he's had the opportunity to speak and utilize his acting skills to create a uniquely appealing persona. A few times in his career, he's branched out into directing, including 1989's 976-EVIL, 2008's Killer Pad and some episodes of the TV series Freddy's Nightmares.
