This week theatrical releases include 'Obsessed' and the limited-run 'Mutant Chronicles', while DVD releases include 'The Burrowers', 'Dante 01' and 'Laid to Rest'.
The Burrowers
After a group of 19th century frontier settlers goes missing, a ragtag posse ventures into the Wild West to rescue them and discovers that the culprits are subterranean creatures. Could this be Tremors 4, Part 2?
Dante 01
From the warped mind of Marc Caro, co-writer and co-director of the fantastical French films Delicatessen and City of Lost Children, comes this sci-fi thriller about an inmate in a prison in space who suffers from an alien infection that has given him unusual, infectious powers.
Flying Saucer Rock N Roll
Set in the 1950s, this campy tribute to alien invasion movies pits a group of teens against weed-headed alien beatnik zombies (which would've made for a more intriguing title).
Hellraiser Puzzle Box Set
It certainly makes sense that a Hellraiser box set would be packaged in a replication of the evil puzzle box from the series, but what makes less sense is that this set includes only the first two movies (granted, Anchor Bay has rights to only those two): the previously released 20th anniversary editions of both, along with the new Blu-Ray release of the first film. For people who want to buy the DVD and Blu-Ray of the same movie...?
I Dismember Mama
In this 1974 shocker, an escaped mental patient who'd been put away for trying to kill his mother sets out to kill "immoral" women while simultaneously protecting the nine-year-old daughter of one of his victims.
Laid to Rest
Slasher about a woman chased by a masked killer. You don't say!
Nuns of Saint Archangel
"Nunsploitation" from 1973 about the fierce (and sexy?) battle to rule a convent after the mother superior dies.
Sam's Lake
A group of friends decides to head to a lake house for a weekend getaway, only to run into the local legend of a maniac who murdered his family and is rumored to still be living in the woods.
