An avalanche of horror DVDs lands in stores this week, but most are re-releases and repackagings of older movies.
House of the Dead Director's Cut: Funny Version
Funny version? You heard right. It seems that human punchline Uwe Boll thinks that his "breakthrough" zombie film House of the Dead could work as a comedy, so he's added new dialogue, alternative takes, pop up commentary and animation from the original video game to enhance the funny. Sounds hilarious. And by "hilarious" I mean "hot-poker-in-the-eye painful." See Boll do to comedy what he's done to horror for the past several years!
Nympha
Scream queen Tiffany Shepis stars as an American woman who goes to Italy to become a nun in a strange convent that washes away her sins with torture. If that weren't bad enough, she also sees horrific visions and encounters and dark presence in the convent.
Pet Sematary: Special Collector's Edition
This Stephen King adaptation about a mystical burial ground that reanimates corpses no doubt wreaked havoc with a generation of spellers.
Pumpkinhead: Collector's Edition
Although less celebrated than Child's Play, it's also the 20th anniversary of Pumpkinhead, a demon conjured to avenge the accidental death of a little boy. One of the most fearsome-looking villains in horror movie history, Pumpkinhead was the creation of the late great special effects legend Stan Winston, who made his directorial debut with the film.
The Ring
This DVD re-release repackages The Ring, the hit ghost story with a convoluted plot involving a cursed video tape, a creepy phone call, a girl at the bottom of a well and a climactic scene that redefines the term high-definition TV.
