This week, Dario Argento's Mother of Tears sees a limited release, while The Eye heads a full slate of DVDs hitting shelves.
Mother of Tears
An American student in Rome unknowingly unleashes a long-dead witch upon the world, causing a wave of crime and violence. This is the third in director Dario Argento's witch-centric "Three Mothers" trilogy, which began with 1977's Suspiria and 1980's Inferno.
Alucard
This modern-day retelling of Dracula is apparently best viewed in a mirror.
The Beast: Special Extended Edition
Peter Benchley, the author who brought you Jaws, followed it up with this 1996 TV miniseries that in no way resembles his more famous work. This one takes place in a small coastal community whose waters are terrorized by a giant squid, not a shark. And the guy who tries to convince everyone of its existence is a fisherman, not a cop. TOTALLY different.
Clean
A serial killer with a heart of gold attends a snuff party with the intent of getting rid of the murderous scum...other than himself.
Trailer (NSFW!)
The Cry: La Llorona
This film explores the Mexican tale of La Llorona ("the crying woman"), a ghostly figure seen weeping for her dead children, this time transplanting the legend to New York City. Not to be confused with "My Sharona," the hit from The Knack.
The Evil Woods
A group of wild 'n crazy high school kids goes off into the middle of the forest to party, only to find out that it's supposedly haunted by the ghost of the "Beer Hunter" (really!), an axe-wielding maniac who killed people who tossed beer cans into his woods. Woodsy the Owl would've been more understanding.
The Eye
Jessica Alba is un-blinded by science, with ghostly consequences.
The Innocent
Four students spend the night in an abandoned hotel haunted by the ghost of a murdered child. Hmmm...maybe that's why it's ABANDONED.
The Machine Girl
Japanese school girl + ninjas + yakuza + chainsaws + flying guillotines + machine gun amputee appendages + arterial spray = the greatest movie of all time?
