Another Asian horror movie remake hits America this week with the Thai adaptation Shutter, while a busy DVD week bows the Will Smith smash I Am Legend and the, er, not-so-smashy "8 Films to Die For" from the After Dark HorrorFest.
Shutter
Joshua Jackson and Rachael Taylor star in this remake of the effective, if not original, Thai hit Shutter. Appropriately enough, it comes from the executive producers of the American remakes of The Ring and The Grudge, and if you've seen those movies, you pretty much know what to expect here.
13: Game of Death
Not to be confused with the similarly themed and titled French film 13 Tzameti, 13: Game of Death is a Thai pic about a destitute man who enters a secretive competition in order to win money, only to realize that the game devolves into life-or-death territory.
Amok Train
In this '80s Italian film with an international flavor, American students visiting Yugoslavia are targeted for a pagan sacrifice aboard a train from Hell. Things presumably run amok.
Borderland
Recent college graduates head to the Mexican border to celebrate but run across a murderous cult -- the worst kind!
Crazy Eights
Childhood friends reunite for a funeral and dig up a time capsule from their youth that holds the remains of a small child.
The Deaths of Ian Stone
Like a sadistic version of Groundhog Day, a man is murdered each day, only to be reborn the next day in a slightly altered existence.
Horrorific
Nine movies for the price of one! This selection of '60s and '70s low-budget camp includes Bloody Pit of Horror (based on the masochistic writings of the Marquis de Sade), Sisters of Death (about vengeance for a sorority sister's death) and The Devil's Nightmare (about a spooky castle whose inhabitants dole out punishment to visitors who spend the night).
I Am Legend
In a future depopulated by disease, Will Smith battles zombie-like "infected" and lame computer effects.
Lake Dead
Three sisters inherit a lakeside motel -- and the murderous locals that inhabit the area.
