It's an international affair of DVDs this week, with vampires from America, zombies from Spain, serial killers from Italy, demons from France and Satan spawn from Hong Kong.
30 Days of Night
Despite Josh Hartnett's perpetually glazed-over, beady-eyed stare, 30 Days of Night's tale of Alaskan vampires was one of the few bright spots in theatrical horror in 2007.
The Bloodstained Shadow
In this 1978 Italian giallo, a college professor returns home to Venice to visit his brother, a Catholic priest, just as a serial killer begins knocking off people around town. Coincidence? I think not.
A Bloody Aria
In this acclaimed Korean shocker, a trip to the countryside goes horribly awry when a female opera singer fends off the advances of her mentor, then runs into the arms of a group of backwoods hoodlums who are much, much worse.
Broceliande
Like Catacombs (eesh), Broceliande is set in a real-life French landmark -- in this case, the Broceliande forest, an area rumored to have mystical power. The film exploits this legend with an archeological dig that unearths an evil presence: Shannyn Sossamon!
The Case of the Bloody Iris
The title might sound like a Hardy Boys mystery, but this 1972 Italian gialllo would make those punk kids wet their pants and go running home to Nancy Drew. In it, a young model moves into an apartment building, unaware that it's the hunting ground for a serial killer. Death ensues.
Dark Chamber
A law student returns home to his father's apartment building but begins to suspect that one of the seven residents might be a killer. Probably the one with a pentagram carved into his back.
Dark Shadows: The Beginning Collection 3
Many people know Dark Shadows as "that '60s soap opera with the vampire," but few realize that the show didn't have a supernatural -- first ghosts, then vampires -- until it was faced with cancellation. (Sort of like any show that adds Heather Locklear.) This DVD collection features the first of the supernatural episodes.
Devil's Offspring
From Hong Kong comes this tale of four college students who believe that their new dorm mate might be the daughter of Satan. I didn't know Ivanka Trump was still in school! (Rimshot.)
How Awful About Allan
Anthony Perkins, unable to shake the Psycho typecasting, stars in this TV movie about a man who suffers from psychosomatic blindness stemming from the guilt of causing his father's death.
