In the only theatrical horror release of the week, zombie master George Romero delivers his latest undead opus, Diary of the Dead, to show these whippersnappers how it's done. On DVD, the Blade TV series takes a bite out of crime.
Diary of the Dead
A group of filmmakers are caught in the middle of the woods during a zombie outbreak. Using their camera, they document the chaos while trying to avoid becoming victims themselves. George Romero "reboots" his zombie universe by going to a first-person point of view, a la The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield. Bring your Dramamine.
Blade: The Series
Based on the hit vampire film franchise, this short-lived television series never got a fair chance; really, how low do your ratings have to be to get cancelled by Spike TV? Maybe Sticky Fingaz wasn't the best choice of stars, but on the bright side, now they can fit the entire series on one four-DVD set.
City of Rott
Don't make the mistake of buying this cartoon for your kids, unless you want them shivering in a cold sweat and asking you questions about the physics of decapitations. City of Rott is a lighthearted animated zombie feature about an old man in a walker who wants nothing more than to find a new pair of slippers in the midst of a zombie apocalypse.
Dangerous Worry Dolls
Revenge, killer dolls and a women's prison; what more do you need in a horror movie? A female prisoner who's tormented daily in her new surroundings turns to South American worry dolls that, according to legend, make one's problems go away. The tiny dolls crawl into her ear at night and possess her, giving her the power to exact revenge.
Furnace
In this horror mystery, a police detective (Michael Paré) must uncover the secret behind a vengeful spirit who's killing convicts in a maximum-security prison. Ja Rule is of little help.
Primal
A group of college students venture into the forest (When will they learn?) to study wildlife but end up being stalked by wildlife -- specifically, a Sasquatch. That's Bigfoot to you and me.
Red Room
A sadistic Japanese game show makes contestants torture one another until one person is left alive. Grisly Japanese torture in the tradition of the notorious Guinea Pig series.
