New Horror Releases in Theaters and on DVD: Week of Feb. 3, 2008

What's Coming Out This Week?

By , About.com Guide

Nothing horrific hitting theaters this week (unless you count Paris Hilton's Hottie & the Nottie, but there's a slew of DVDs to scare the pants off of you. Now, THAT's hot.

Boy Meets Girl

Unearthed Films
In this controversial 1994 British shocker, a man -- er, "boy" -- meets a "girl" in a bar and goes to her place for a little hanky panky, but gets more hanky than he can handle when she ties him up and tortures him.

Croc

© RHI Entertainment
A killer crocodile escapes from a croc farm in Thailand and begins victimizing more tourists than Disney World and Epcot Center combined.

Deadhouse

© Brain Damage Films
Two stranded sisters seek help at a secluded house -- never a good idea in a horror movie -- and are terrorized by a couple of crazed killers.

Demon Seduction

© Brain Damage Films
Aliens mask themselves as human females in order to seduce scientists and gain the secrets of DNA experiments that will help save their species. Or something like that.

Grindhouse Psychos Triple Feature

© Shriek Show
This trio of cult films featuring psychopaths. In Cop Killers (1973), a pair of friends on their way to buy cocaine are stopped by the police and respond with gunfire. In Tenement (1985), a street gang seeks revenge on the residents of a Brooklyn apartment building after they call the cops to arrest the gangsters for squatting. In Don't Go In The House (1980), a serial killer hangs women upside down and sets them on fire.

Homemade

© Brain Damage Films
A snuff filmmaker is arrested, but who's filming a girl being held captive in a closet? My guess: R. Kelly.

Killer Pad

© Lions Gate Entertainment
In this horror comedy directed by Robert Englund, three friends use their newly acquired wealth to buy a mansion in the Hollywood Hills, only to discover that it's a gateway to Hell. I did say it was in the Hollywood Hills, after all.

Orb

© York Entertainment
A group of friends have their Hawaiian vacation interrupted by a meteor strike that leaves behind a mysterious orb that spurs people into violence.

The Phantom Creeps

© VCI Entertainment
This 12-episode serial from 1939 stars Bela Lugosi as a mad scientist who tries to take over the world -- Really, what else do mad scientists do? -- by using an assortment of weapons, from a giant robot to a mechanical spider and an invisibility belt.

Psychotronica Collection 1

© VCI Entertainment
Psychotronic is a fancy word for cult films or grindhouse cinema -- horror, exploitation and the like -- and this collection gathers six examples from the '50s through the '70s: Delinquent Schoolgirls (1974), Dream No Evil (1970), Mondo Keyhole (1966), The Raw Ones (1965), The Mermaids of Tiburon (1962) and Cry of the Bewitched (1957).
