Indie Spotlight: Red Velvet
Thursday March 27, 2008
Those of you complaining about the lack of originality and the glut of horror remakes and sequels might want to check out Red Velvet. Recently featured at the 2008 Texas Fear Fest, the film is a story within a story, as a woman (Kelli Garner) meets a man (Henry Thomas, of E.T. fame) who makes up stories to entertain her, but the final one -- about her friends getting butchered at a birthday party she was supposed to attend -- may or may not be true. Besides the unique plot, Red Velvet stands out for its striking visuals (or is the photo to the right not an indication?), which you can see for yourself in the trailer or in this photo gallery. The movie is making its way through the horror convention circuit -- next stop Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors in Los Angeles April 25-27 -- but you should be able to see it on DVD (or even in at a theater or two) later this year.
