Eli Roth and Andrea Osvart in Aftershock.

We have new trailers for two very different upcoming movies: the horror spoof sequel Scary Movie 5 and the Chilean-American co-production Aftershock. The former stars Ashley Tisdale and Simon Rex as a young couple dealing with a supernatural presence in their home -- a clear nod to Paranormal Activity, although the official synopsis sounds more like a Black Swan spoof (and the trailer references everything from Inception to Tyler Perry's Madea movies, as the franchise strays further and further away from focusing on solely the horror genre). It hits theaters on April 12, 2013 and my suffer from the similar (in all the worst ways) A Haunted House being released three months prior.
The latter features director Eli Roth in the starring role (he also produced and co-wrote) as an American tourist in Chile who struggles to survive after an earthquake sets free a group of violent convicts. It will be interesting to see if Roth, riding a wave of notoriety after the boost in mainstream awareness from his turn in Inglourious Basterds, can carry a feature film -- granted, the true star of the film will likely be the gore and violent mayhem. We'll see for ourselves when Aftershock hits theaters in June 2013.
