The CW is about to get a bit darker, with the medical drama Emily Owens, M.D. being replaced in midseason by the new "meta" thriller Cult, which stars Matthew Davis (The Vampire Diaries) as an investigative journalist looking into the disappearance of his brother and how it ties to a deadly and secretive cult formed around a TV show called...Cult. Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield) co-stars as a research assistant on the show who also suspects that something's amiss with Cult -- that is, the TV show within the TV show, not the TV show. Confused? Me too. Hopefully we can sort it out when Cult (the TV show without the cult surrounding it) debuts on Tuesday, February 19 at 9:00 PM ET/PT.
Meanwhile, ABC has scheduled its midseason series Zero Hour to premiere on Thursday, February 14, at 8:00 PM ET/PT. The show stars Anthony Edwards (ER) as a magazine publisher and professional skeptic whose disbelief in the paranormal is put to the test when his wife is abducted and he's drawn into a centuries-old mystery. The cast also includes Jacinda Barrett (Urban Legends: Final Cut), Ken Leung (Lost), Carmen Ejogo (Pride and Glory), Scott Michael Foster (The River) and Michael Nyqvist (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).
Elsewhere, NBC announced that its midseason replacement Do No Harm will premiere on Thursday, January 31 at 10:00 PM ET/PT, but although the show's setup initially sounded like a modern-day Jekyll and Hyde tale, it's looking less horror-skewed and more like a multiple personality medical drama. Hopefully, I'm wrong about that.
