Great news! No sooner do I speculate on the release date of the sequel to The Last Exorcism -- I figured August was a good guess -- than word comes that the film will actually hit theaters much earlier, on March 1, 2013. Also newsworthy: the film appears to be titled The Last Exorcism Part II -- not the awful Last Exorcism II: The Beginning of the End that it seems will be the title in Europe -- and the US distributor will be CBS Films.
The latter point is particularly interesting, given that Lionsgate distributed not only the first movie but also all of producer Eli Roth's directorial features to date. I'm not sure why Lionsgate isn't handling the sequel, but although CBS Films is much less experienced at genre releases, it had a runaway success earlier this year with The Woman in Black, so you shouldn't be concerned that this will be a botched or limited release.
Until a trailer comes out, this first photo (above) will have to suffice. (Unfortunately, it isn't clear from the pic if The Last Exorcism Part II will be a found footage film or not.)
