Normally, another modestly budgeted found footage horror movie wouldn't be particularly noteworthy, but the eco-horror film The Bay doesn't have a "normal" behind-the-scenes horror movie pedigree. It's produced by the team of Jason Blum and Steven Schneider, who brought us the Paranormal Activity franchise and Insidious, and is directed by Academy Award-winner Barry Levinson (Rain Man, The Natural, Good Morning, Vietnam, Sphere). The Bay had been sitting on Lionsgate's schedule without a date for some time before moving to Roadside Attractions for distribution, which unfortunately pretty much guarantees a much smaller release.
On the bright side, Roadside Attractions is moving ahead with the release at a quick pace, scheduling it for two days AFTER Halloween, on November 2. And now we also have a trailer, which looks entertaining, if not wholly original. It stars The Cabin in the Woods' Kristen Connolly in the story of deadly parasites that spread through a small seaside town in Maryland. The Bay will also be available on iTunes the same day it hits theaters, if you need any more proof that this won't be a wide release.
