I tend to defend Hollywood when the subject of remakes comes up, but a recent rash of copycat-itis is trying my patience. Not only are there two competing Dracula TV shows and two competing TV shows from the Silence of the Lambs universe in development, but now there are also two shows based on the Washington Irving story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Following reports of Fox bringing the tale to life on the small screen comes word that The CW is also working on a show called Sleepy Hollow, and like Fox's version, it's a modern-day take on the story -- this time with Ichabod Crane an FBI agent investigating a decapitation.
If that's not enough, there's another Amityville Horror offshoot in the works -- which makes at least three, including The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes and Amityville: The Legacy. This time around, the film is billing itself as a "true prequel" that will trace the evil force in the famed Amityville, New York house back to the original murders of the DeFeo family and will utilized "found footage" of a real-life 1976 news report -- including a séance conducted in the home -- an investigation that produced the famed photo to the right of what's supposedly a ghostly little boy. The fact that the press release would actually use the phrase "found footage" makes me dubious of how "true" this prequel is, but I have to admit that that photo has always kinda creeped me out, so this flick at least has my attention...for now.
