It seems the remake of The Crow has more lives than the undead titular character. It's gone through several iterations, with Stephen Norrington (Blade) and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) each attached to direct at one time or another and Bradley Cooper and Mark Wahlberg each tapped to star. On top of all the personnel shuffling, The Weinstein Company last year filed a lawsuit to to halt Relativity Media's plans for the "reinvention."
Now, word comes that the lawsuit has been settled and that The Weinstein Company -- specifically, its Dimension Films arm -- and Relativity are collaborating on a "gritty reboot" of The Crow, with F. Javier Gutiérrez attached to direct and Jesse Wigutow on board to write the script. Gutiérrez's only feature film to date is the wonderful apocalyptic Spanish thriller Before The Fall (one of my top picks of 2009), while Wigutow's résumé is similarly light, his highlight being the 2003 Michael Douglas drama It Runs in the Family. Now, the burning question remains: who will star?
