Dexter Renewed for Two More Seasons

It's time to be thankful, Dexter fans, and not just because it's Thanksgiving week. After some tense negotiations (at least, for fans), Michael C. Hall has signed on for two more years of the Showtime serial killer show. Like the first six seasons, seasons 7 and 8 will consist of 12 episodes each. The downside: they will, according to Showtime prez David Nevins, "likely" be the show's swan song. As a fan, it will be sad to see the show go, but eight years is a great run, and I'd be intrigued to see how the writers choose to close out Dex's killing spree.

Will he end up behind bars? Gunned down in a hail of police bullets? Or will he continue his justified homicides into the sunset? Or maybe he'll turn over a new leaf and become a preist or a meter maid? Regardless of how it ends, few shows can maintain such high quality for eight seasons, and there have been some rumblings from fans over the quality of the past season or two (Some didn't like Season 5; I personally did, but I don't care for the current Season 6.), so it might be good to quit before a steady decline begins in earnest.

The writers are really going to have to step their game up if Dexter runs for two more seasons. Remember during the first, second and third seasons when you truly had no idea what would happen next? Yeah, not so much these days. Great show, but the writers need some fresh blood!

Although I am still in the middle of season five, I have to agree that Dex is losing some of what appealed to me in earlier seasons. I see him as losing more and more of his cool… In the beginning, and up until his run in with Arthur Mitchell, he seemed more focused and detail oriented. He’s getting sloppy. It is just a matter of time before he is caught.

I believe he will be relieved, ultimately. I also think that his secret should be kept “in the family” Deb should pull the trigger.

Personally, I would like to see some of what happened in the Family Home….How much Debra really knew…and how much she just buried because she idolized her brother.

As we learned in Season 2 when Dex confessed to Doakes that Harry had committed suicide after seeing him cutting up a kill in the family garage….How on Earth could a nosy little sister NOT have some idea something nefarious was going on in there? I had a little sister….they are probably better than the TSA in detecting suspicious activity.

Deb knew *Something*….that’s why she quit counseling….her “crush” on Dexter is just the tip of the iceberg….or should be if the writers are smart.

They need to “Go Back to the Start” IMHO.

*Bright Blessings*
