The big screen version of the bestselling young adult novel The Hunger Games has its main stars set.
- Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) will star as Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old girl living in a post-apocalyptic world who volunteers to take the place of her younger sister in the annual Hunger Games, which pits teens against one another in a fight to the death.
- Josh Hutcherson (The Vampire's Assistant, The Kids Are Alright) will play Peeta Mellark, a schoolmate of Katniss' whom she must battle for the District title, although she has affections for him.
- Liam Hemsworth (Triangle, Knowing) will play Gale Hawthorne, an older friend -- and possible competing love interest -- of Katniss'.
I haven't read the book, but it seems to be a bit like Battle Royale meets The Running Man, with perhaps a bit of Twilight, if you factor in the love triangle. Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, Pleasantville) is directing, with a release date of March 23, 2012 planned.

The 2% don’t even care.
