The 37th annual Saturn Awards were announced this week by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, and the zombie series The Walking Dead topped the TV category with six noms, while the coming-of-age vampire tale Let Me In earned seven in the movie category, trailing only Inception for total honors. Other notable horror/suspense nominees include Black Swan, Shutter Island, The Wolfman and Eclipse.

Still, though, we have yet another year of baffling nominations from the Academy that include several works that would be difficult to describe as sci fi, fantasy or horror, including The American, True Grit, Salt, Robin Hood, Animal Kingdom, Letters to Juliet (?!?!), The Good Heart, Breaking Bad and The Closer. It seems pretty shameful that an organization dedicated to genre fare would feel obliged to step so far outside that realm for its "best of" lists. If you can't find five or six worthy nominees for each category, then only include three or four. Don't insult us with Letters to Juliet.
