Well, there's good and bad news on the Alien prequel front. The bad news is that there apparently will be no Alien prequel (at least in the near future). The good news is that it lives on in a mutated format. That is, director Ridley Scott has used the idea for the prequel as a jumping-off point for an entirely new film starring The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo's Noomi Rapace.
The movie is titled Prometheus and was written by Lost creator Damon Lindelof, but little has been revealed about the plot. It might not be even remotely horror-related, but with the talent involved (including rumored interest by Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron) it sure seems promising. Prometheus is scheduled to hit theaters in a little over a year, on March 9, 2012.

Whatever the movie ends up being, the combination of Ridley Scott and Noomi Rapace makes me want to see it.
