Iconic studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has officially emerged from bankruptcy with a reorganized structure, in the process raising "$500 million to fund operations, including production of a new slate of films and television series." Not mentioned in the official statement is the projects already under development or in the can for MGM.
These include the eagerly anticipated Joss Whedon-penned horror flick Cabin in the Woods, which had been delayed from February 2010 for 3-D conversion and then dropped from the schedule altogether once the studio's financial problems came to light. Also in the MGM fold is The Poughkeepsie Tapes, the 2007 "found footage" debut of the Dowdle Brothers (Quarantine, Devil).
With the talent involved and the work (largely) completed on these projects, you have to think that their release is a matter of when rather than if -- Cabin in the Woods hopefully aiming for a theatrical run and The Poughkeepsie Tapes more likely going straight to video. Less certain is a rumored remake/reboot of Child's Play that has yet to receive a green light from the studio.
