Weekend Box Office: The Fourth Kind Tops The Box

In a rare weekend with two major horror releases opening at the box office, The Fourth Kind pulled a mild upset of The Box, earning an estimated $12.5 million to The Box's weak $7.9 million. The Box had seemed destined to prevail over The Fourth Kind, with its larger budget, bigger stars and more famous director (not to mention the fact that it's just a better movie), but The Fourth Kind obviously struck more of a chord with audiences, perhaps riding the residual wave of Paranormal Activity by featuring its similarly styled "real footage." Final numbers are due late Monday.

I have seen both movies, and The author of this post is obviously partial to “The Box.” Your opinion that it is just a better movie is subjective at best and you give no valid reason for it as well. Even if some of the “archival footage” is not genuine, the movie itself kept me in my seat in anticipation of the next scene. I believe The Fourth Kind is a great movie that doesnt just scare you outright, but gives you an eerie sense that we may not be the most intelligent life in our universe. Perhaps the most disturbing part of the movie is the fact that Dr. Tylers daughter was never found. There was a police officer stationed outside her house, no signs of forced entry, and no indication that Dr. Tyler murdered her own daughter. If nothing more, this movie makes the gears in your brain turn. See the movie and decide for yourself.

The “valid reason” is on Rotten Tomatoes (48% to 15%) and in my reviews (click on the links), which by definition are indeed subjective — sort of like your disturbing belief that any of the events in this movie are indeed real.
