The Final Destination Wins the Battle vs. Halloween II

In the unusual instance of two major horror releases opening on the same day, The Final Destination bested Halloween II, with an estimated $27.5 million in receipts for the weekend, making it the biggest opening of any of the Final Destination films (granted, helped by the inflated 3-D prices; I personally threw $14 down that hole).
Halloween II placed a distant third with less than $17 million, significantly lower than the $26 million Rob Zombie's Halloween earned in its opening weekend in 2007. But really, it's the audiences who lost big, forking over $43 million for two terrible movies while more innovative, entertaining films like Drag Me to Hell and Orphan have done underwhelming business.
