With the success of the
Star Trek reboot, you can bet that reboots, reimaginings, revisualizations and any other semantically creative way of avoiding the word "remake" will continue in full force. The latest possibility:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The Hollywood Reporter is saying that a "relaunch" is being explored by the 1992 movie's director, Fran Rubel Kuzui, who retained the rights to the film with her husband. The relaunch probably wouldn't involve writer Joss Whedon and would avoid his popular TV series' universe, which expanded the story to include a host of characters not in the film. You have to wonder about the appeal of this project, though, since:
- Whedonites will no doubt turn up their noses at it.
- Based on their IMDb entries, the TV show is significantly more popular than the movie (8.6 rating on 21,000+ votes versus 5.3 rating on 14,000+ votes).
However, since no studios or writers are involved yet, nothing is imminent. So calm down.
