Another week, another half dozen
horror remakes announced. Well, just two for now. First, there's
I Saw What You Did, the 1965 chiller from gimmick master William Castle about two girls who make a prank phone call to a killer, telling him "I saw what you did, and I know who you are." It's actually already been remade, as a 1988 TV movie starring Shawnee Smith (
Saw) and Candace Cameron of
Full House fame. The new remake comes from Joel Silver's Dark Catle Entertainment, which has produced remakes of Williams Castle's
House on Haunted Hill and
13 Ghosts. I can only assume that
The Tingler is on its way.
The second hits me close to home. One of my all-time faves, the '80s vampire classic Fright Night, is being remade by DreamWorks. Producer Alison Rosenzweig is also scheduling a remake of another fave or mine, Angel Heart, and she will no doubt earn a special place on my voodoo doll list if she screws them up.
