Last week, CBS announced more details on the upcoming TV show Harper's Island, which features the classic slasher setup of a group of young adults gathered on a island for a wedding, only to be terrorized by a mysterious killer who bumps them off one by one. Some other facts:
  • The show features Christopher Gorham of Ugly Betty fame, Jim Beaver and Katie Cassidy from Supernatural (Bobby and the original Ruby), Richard Burgi from Desperate Housewives and Hostel Part II, and Harry Hamlin (no explanation needed).
  • The show will air on Thursday nights at 10:00 PM ET/PT, starting April 9, 2009.
  • The show is scheduled as a one-season, 13-episode show that will end on July 2.
  • In every episode, at least one character dies.
  • The show is being billed as a "multi-platform social show collaboration" between CBS and EQAL, the company behind lonelygirl15, which will include a webiste (www.harpersglobe.com) airing complementary episodes with characters, locations and plots that overlap with the TV show.
  • The online content will begin airing on Wednesday, March 18, several weeks before the first TV episode.
Although CBS is declaring Harper's Island a one-off show, there's little doubt that if it's popular enough, they'll find a way to bring it back for a second season. Until then, check out photos and a trailer for the show.

I just finished Harpers Island.I am one of those persons that had invested 10 hours to this show. And really kinda got into it. some of the characters were really enjoyable.I really started to care and then Sat. night came.IT WAS THE GROOM!!!!! what a crock Why do you always have to have the good guy be such an unexplainable evil one. And to have him kill the bride wearing her wedding dress. And the poor two guys that lasted thru the whole show and get killed UGH I was so disappointed. Could you have just had a little better ending

I have to say that I too was disappointed in the finale — not so much as to who the killer was as much as how the whole thing went down. I pretty much expected a revelation out of left field that didn’t make much sense, and that’s what I got, but the ending seemed to drag on during the final hour and felt very anticlimactic. Still, overall, a fun summer show. I wish more shows would aim for a one-season run like this — go out on a bang, instead of dragging along for too many seasons when usually the follow-up seasons can’t compare to the first.
