If the
renewal of HBO's
True Blood for another season wasn't already an indication, the ratings are clear: the show is a hit. Although its September debut drew a
modest viewership, the vampire show based on the Sookie Stackhouse series of novels by Charlaine Harris has steadily grown an audience. With the season finale looming next week, this week's episode drew in around 2.4 million viewers. While that number doesn't sound terribly impressive, it's a 66% increase over the premiere, and
as CNN points out, when you take into account the repeat airings, the HBO on demand viewership and the DVR viewings, the average audience balloons to 6.8 million per week. That would put it in the top 30 of all TV shows this season.
It sounds like True Blood has grown on viewers -- myself included. I admittedly wasn't drawn in until the last three or so episodes, but it's gotten pretty good. Plus, it gives me an excuse to do my Bill Elvis-meets-Foghorn Leghorn impression: "Sookie!"
