Stephen King vs. Hollywood Horror

"Master of horror" Stephen King (wonder why he was never tapped for that show) has penned an intriguing article for Entertainment Weekly outlining why he thinks big Hollywood horror productions usually fail to generate genuine scares. One movie he does like (and which he doesn't consider a big Hollywood production) is The Strangers. Oddly, he even praises The Happening, which admittedly had its moments. He doesn't seem to be looking forward to the new X-Files flick, however, but in that film's defense, I don't know if it's supposed to be very scary. He even talks about what he thinks is the scariest movie sequence of all time; you might be surprised.

I couldn't help but read into his statements as an indictment of the Hollywood interpretations of his stories...
