Sneak Peeks at Upcoming Horror TV Shows Fringe and Harper's Island

Moonlight might be no more, but that hasn't caused the TV networks to shy away from horror-themed shows, and we've just gotten our first look at a couple on the horizon:

- Fringe: This Fox show was created by J.J. Abrams (Lost) and resembles The X-Files, with a group of FBI agents (and a rogue scientist and his son) investigating unexplained phenomena. The strong cast includes Joshua Jackson, Charlotte Rampling, Blair Brown, Lance Reddick and Kirk Acevedo. The premiere episode, which airs August 26, 2008, at 8:00 PM EST/PST, reportedly cost $10 million, and it shows. Check out the trailer.
- Harper's Island: CBS fills the horror void left by Moonlight's departure with Harper's Island, which appears to be as close to a slasher TV show as I've ever seen. How's this for a premise: a group of young adults gather on a secluded island for a wedding, only to be bumped off one by one. I'm not sure how they can sustain this plot for very long, which is probably why the show is scheduled as a mid-season replacement. (Hopefully it will see the light of day, unlike CBS's 2007 zombie pilot Babylon Fields.) Feature film director Jon Turtletaub (National Treasure) directed the pilot and serves as executive producer, a function he performed for CBS's Jericho. See the trailer.
