The
Cloverfield monster used its size "18 school buses" feet to top the DVD rental charts in its first week of release, although its $7.5 million gross was slightly less than
Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem made the week before.
AVP:R held strong in 4th place, feeding fears that there might be another terrible sequel.
One Missed Call finished a disapppointing 7th in its opening frame, although the biggest disappointment might've been
The Orphanage, which ended up in 25th place in its first week. Granted, it's a smaller film, but having gone to a Hollywood Video this week and seen only two copies on the shelves, I was dismayed at the distribution -- or lack thereof. That said, it's a banner time for horror on DVD, with 10 -- count 'em 10 -- horror/suspense films amongst the top 40 rentals. Hooray scary!
