Mark's Horror & Suspense BlogMagnolia in the Red Magnolia Pictures, the indie studio that has released modestly budgeted, unique horror movies like The Signal, Shrooms and Murder Party (plus a pair of acclaimed foreign films coming later this year: France's Eden Log and Sweden's Let the Right One In), has now acquired the rights to Red, the Jack Ketchum tale about an old man taking revenge on juvenile delinquents who kill his dog.
The film, which premiered this year at the Sundance Film Festival (Magnolia already picked up fellow Sundance entrant Donkey Punch back in February.), stars Brian Cox (pictured) and is directed by Lucky McKee (May, The Woods). This makes the third movie based on a Ketchum novel to be released this year, following the direct-to-video films The Lost and The Girl Next Door. Unlike those two, however, Red is scheduled to see a theatrical release in late summer -- no doubt limited, given the recent release schedules of The Signal and Shrooms.
