Barack Obama, Vampire Slayer?

Wednesday February 20, 2008
Justin Sherman and Nathan Bell in BarackulaEven if they don't elect him President, supporters of Barack Obama have provided us with plenty of entertainment. First, there was Obama Girl. Now, there's Barackula, a comedy-horror-musical short that takes a fictional (I think) look back at the candidate's time at Harvard University.

In the film, Obama (played by Justin Sherman, who also wrote the script, no doubt having gotten tired of being told he looks like the Senator and just deciding to go with the flow) is nominated for president for the Harvard Law Review, only to discover that the journal's staff is comprised entirely of vampires. Instead of turning him, though, he ends up converting them with the sort of charisma that has thus far won over voters, convincing them that he can unite the "mortals and immortals"...or does he? The cliffhanger ending promises more to come...Barackula 2: Electric Boogaloo perhaps?

The movie is unusually polished for online media and channels the campy spirit -- and catchy tunes (with choreography!) -- of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. And, best of all, it's free! Check it out at www.barackula.com. Note: No confirmation yet of the rumored Clintonstein, but I'll keep you posted.
