Freddy's Dead: Englund Excluded From Remake
Platinum Dunes, the Michael Bay-run production company behind recent remakes The Hitcher, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (and its prequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) and The Amityville Horror -- not to mention the upcoming Friday the 13th and The Birds -- has announced that it's remaking A Nightmare on Elm Street...without Robert Englund. The horror icon has played the role of Elm Street villain Freddy Krueger in eight films since 1984. Unlike masked slasher villains like Friday's Jason Vorhees and Halloween's Michael Myers, Freddy has been played by only one actor since the character's inception, and Englund's charismatic personality has become what many believe to be an inextricable part of the character.
While I'm not opposed to the concept of such remakes, building your whole business around them like Plantinum Dunes has done seems a bit disrespectful to the horror genre -- especially when they're of the soulless, artistically corrupt nature of their releases thus far. Who knows; the remakes might bring something fresh and new to the Friday the 13th and Elm Street franchises, but judging from garbage like The Amityville Horror and The Hitcher, I'm not holding my breath.

I WON’T BE SEEING IT, PERIOD!
Michael bay is good with certain films…
but when you exclude what i consider the soul of freddy krueger(Robert Englund) you might as well make it a low budget film..some thing not even worth advertising..
i dont care if the person replacing him is a “good actor”..its some thing you just dont do…it like giving you imitation fruit..the taste just isnt the same as the actual fruit.
michael bay just killed jason. and now hes taking away my favorite horror character (freddy krueger)..
i will not be watching this film!!!
